Xiaomi, a leading tech company, has recently launched their newest 13T series smartphones during a key event held in Berlin, Germany. This event was simultaneously streamed live on the company's official Facebook page and YouTube channel, catering to an online audience. The 13T series comprises two flagship devices, namely the Xiaomi 13T and the Xiaomi 13T Pro.

One prominent feature of the T-series is the incorporation of Leica’s advanced camera optimisations, thereby integrating Xiaomi’s premium-grade handsets with the expertise of Leica. Thus, the Xiaomi 13T series smartphones uphold the philosophy intrinsic to the brand's T-series products of offering relevant innovative technology at a price point that is more accessible than their premium-tier segment.

The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica has been extended to their T-series smartphones for the first time with the 13T models and aligns them with other Xiaomi handsets that also feature Leica technology. According to a Leica representative who was present at the event, Leica's contribution to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy covers a broad scope including optical design, hardware component assessment, the development of joint software, and quality monitoring of its imaging facilities, emphasizing that this is more than just utilizing the reputation of a renowned German optics brand.

The 13T series will feature Leica Summicron lenses, which comprise 7P aspherical high transmittance lenses, an infrared filter on the sensor side, a lens edge ink coating, and ALD reflectance technology for reducing glare. The previously familiar Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant photographic styles continue to feature on the 13T series, but Xiaomi has supplemented these with a new Leica Custom Photographic Styles feature which enables users to devise their own Leica-like filters for images.

In addition to these camera enhancements, Xiaomi has made changes to its user interface to reflect Leica’s design aesthetic, and introduced optional Leica watermarks for photos. Newly integrated focal lengths consist of 35mm, 50mm, and 90mm equivalent lenses, which Xiaomi refers to as the Master Lens System. The 13T series also offers 10-bit RAW for professional photo editors. On top of this, the Xiaomi Imaging Engine introduced by the company, asserts to provide a capture speed that is 63% quicker than that of competitors, with enhanced low-light capturing capabilities and other features.

Another upgrade to the 13T series, centered on the Xiaomi 13T Pro model, is its videography facilities featuring a 10-bit Log recording and Ultra Night Video capture. However, Xiaomi has not revealed the full specifications of the cameras on both models, hinting only at a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and an ultra-wide camera with an unspecified megapixel rating for the 13T series overall.

These smartphones, available in Alpine Blue, Meadow Green, and classic Black, are also IP68 rated for dust and water resistance, which is a first for the T-series line which had an IP53 rating up until now. They feature a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ in the 13T Pro and a MediaTek Dimensity 8200-Ultra in the Xiaomi 13T, new Xiaomi BioComfort vegan leather rear housing, AMOLED display panels called the Xiaomi CrystalRes AMOLED, and introduced a new variant offering 16GB RAM with 1TB storage for the 13T Pro model. Despite withholding other details, Xiaomi provided the starting prices of the models and promised four years of Android updates and five years of security patches for the 13T series, along with free screen repair within the first six months of purchase.
