Smartwatches come with a diverse range of operating systems. Although Android and iOS dominate the market, many smartwatch brands use their proprietary operating systems. This can often leave users feeling restricted from some essential compatibility features. Thankfully, companies like Mobvoi use Google's Wear OS in their smartwatches, improving integration with Android mobile phones.

The TicWatch Pro 5 from Mobvoi is one such smartwatch. Its design and additional features make it a top choice for anyone considering buying a smartwatch. When we reviewed the TicWatch Pro 5, it received our Editor’s Choice of 2023 Award. Its classic yet stylish design is a remarkable addition to the smartwatch market.

The TicWatch Pro 5 not only performs well but also boasts robust health tracking features. Its construction is solid, and its battery life extends for several days. This means you won't have to fret about it running out by the end of the day or carry a charger if you're away for the weekend. It's definitely a step up from the conventional Android smartwatch.

The TicWatch Pro 5 runs Wear OS 3.5, the Android smartwatch operating system by Google. It functions smoothly as the RAM on the watch is ample for the operating system and its features. The watch is responsive, and Mobvoi Health app synchronizes well with it. While the GPS takes a while to lock-in, workout accuracy is commendable. Typical fitness functions like step, sleep, and heart rate tracking perform really well.

Sound quality on the TicWatch Pro 5 could use a boost. The onboard speaker's volume is somewhat low. However, in quieter environments, the speaker clarity is satisfactory. For louder background noise, you'd have to use earbuds connected to the watch. But incoming and outgoing call clarity is surprisingly good. The built-in microphone captures voices well, providing a seamless hands-free calling experience.

The battery life of the TicWatch Pro 5 ensures up to 80 hours under average use. Testing saw a consistent 3-day lifespan between charges. However, daily GPS workout activity restricted the lifespan to about 2.5 days. The watch charges rapidly — 65% in 30 minutes and fully in just over an hour. It certainly outperforms the Pixel Watch that only lasts a day.

Listed at $349.99, the TicWatch Pro 5 can seem pricey compared to other smartwatches.
