Samsung Electronics has provided official confirmation regarding an array of smartphones that are poised to receive the upcoming Android 14 update in the next few months. The South Korean consumer electronics giant has pledged a future update involving its most recent One UI 6 interface, which is developed on the foundational structure of Google's latest Android operating system, to an agreed batch of Galaxy S series, Z series, and A series models.
For some of its newer smartphone editions, Samsung has made a commitment to supply four years worth of updates for the operating system and five years of security patch updates. As we progress through the weeks, we anticipate the list of smartphones marked for the Android 14 update to broaden.
This Monday, the South Korean firm took the wraps off its One UI 6 update and unveiled some of the avante garde camera-related features being introduced to users' devices. This revelation was a clear indication that these smartphone models will indeed be privy to this pending update.
According to Samsung, the first batch of smartphones to receive this update will be the Galaxy S23 series, earmarked as the company's flagship handsets for 2023. However, it doesn't stop here. Samsung has suggested that earlier models such as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series will also benefit from the Android 14 update complemented wisely by Samsung's One UI 6.
The final model from the S-series to receive the software update will fittingly be the Galaxy S20 lineup that was launched in 2020, seeing as the Galaxy S10 series had already received its final Android OS update in the previous year. However, Samsung has astutely categorized its Galaxy Z-series smartphones that will be compatible with the Android 14 update which involves a plethora of options like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, down to the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
According to Samsung's breakdown, the inaugural Galaxy Z Fold launched in 2019 will not break away from its Android 13-powered One UI 5. Samsung's focus is not only centered around its flagship and foldable devices, but also its Galaxy Note 20 series, which were the last to bear the Note branding, are expected to be updated to Android 14.
Models such as the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53 are also in line for the One UI 6 update, courtesy of Samsung. The interesting factor that comes to light here is that numerous recently launched smartphones, which includes the likes of Samsung's Galaxy M and Galaxy F series, are consciously not included in the list for the pending Android 14 update. This indicates a future expansion of the list which will factor in the regional availability of these smartphones at a subsequent date.
