With the increasing price range of premium smartphones these days, it is no surprise that devices at the pinnacle of technology can start out at a whopping $1,199 and are even more expensive than that. One of the most trusted names in insurance, Allstate, recently put a handful of these high-end devices, namely - iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy ZFold 5, and Google Pixel Fold, under strenuous checks to test their resilience and durability.
The devices were subjected to a battery of comprehensive tests including dropping, dunking and gauging their breakability in order to understand their survivability quotient. These tests consumed around three minutes of estimation time. A Dunk Test was the first order of business for Allstate, wherein each of these smartphones was immersed in water of six feet depth for a span of thirty minutes.
Given the advanced IP-ratings that these premium smartphones boast of, it was not surprising that all four models made it through the Dunk Test successfully. However, when exposed to a single drop from a six-foot height onto a pavement, all four phones succumbed to damage.
The key observations drawn from the drop test include the fact that repair costs for damaged devices can be a considerable financial burden. On average, the cost for fixing or replacing a device was found to be around $209. The figure is much steeper for premium devices, as the ones tested by Allstate.
While utilizing protective accessories such as covers and screen protectors can be helpful in safeguarding your device, considering repair or replacement plans could prove to be more efficacious. These plans can extend the coverage on your pricey acquisition, thereby ensuring added security for your device.
For those intrigued to catch sights of some high-end smartphones succumbing to the drop test, a video footage is available to feed your curiosity. It was an unnerving sight to watch such costly gadgets meeting their untimely demise.
