Although the OnePlus Open is not OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone if we consider the company's association with OPPO (who is responsible for several foldable smartphone releases), it has certainly established itself as a distinct brand with its own unique offerings. Despite the similarities between the OnePlus Open and the OPPO Find N3 (which is essentially the same phone, but with an OPPO logo and a few more color options), the OnePlus Open stands out for its exemplary performance and unique features.

OnePlus and OPPO have a reputation for building high-quality smartphones, and the OnePlus Open is no exception. It includes a commendably large camera bump that houses three flagship-level cameras, providing impressive photo-taking abilities that we will delve into later in the review. The slim bezels of the OnePlus Open enhance its ergonomics, making it more comfortable to hold whether the phone is open or closed.

As for the design, the OnePlus Open features a black vegan leather back which enhances grip and lessens the likelihood of dropping the phone. Its titanium alloy and carbon fiber construction give it a high-end feel without adding much weight. In fact, the OnePlus Open has one of the lightest weight profiles among its competitors.

When it comes to performance, the OnePlus Open surpasses expectations. It features an incredibly efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor,16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage. A rigorous month-long test revealed the OnePlus Open to perform smoothly without overheating, even during heavy usage. Its fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature provide quick and secure access to the device.

The OnePlus Open doesn’t disappoint in terms of battery life and charging speed either. Its 4,805mAh battery in conjunction with the efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor ensures a long-lasting battery life, and with 67W SUPERVOOC charging, the phone can be fully charged in just over 40 minutes. While it lacks wireless charging capabilities, its fast wired charging speed more than mitigates this missing feature.

Finally, the OnePlus Open promises four years of OS updates and five years of security updates, and it launches with Android 13 and OxygenOS 13.2 which runs smoothly on the device. In terms of the camera, the OnePlus Open is equipped with a very promising 48-megapixel main sensor that bears the capacity to capture high-quality images with impressive depth and clarity.
