The latest smartphone from Chinese telecommunications leader Huawei has been released despite the rigorous trade restrictions imposed by the United States. This innovative device is speculated to contain Huawei's first 5G chip since its access to American technology was curtailed three years ago. The smartphone made its market debut in August.

Several online reviews have pointed out that the wireless speed of the new Huawei device matches the speed of the most recent iPhones from Apple, and it supports 5G and satellite calls. After being cut off from crucial resources such as semiconductors and other advanced products from the world's leading chipmakers due to US sanctions in 2020, the Shenzhen-based company has been attempting to bounce back.

According to a Bloomberg test, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro's bandwidth is similar to other 5G phones in the market, with its speed surpassing 350 megabits per second. Analysts Charles Shum and Sean Chen of Bloomberg stated that the new 5G chip in Huawei's latest Mate 60 could have been created by SMIC. This marks a noteworthy development in China's semiconductor industry. However, they don't expect a significant financial boost for SMIC in 2024 because of production yield issues and material constraints.

It remains uncertain which chips Huawei utilized to manufacture its latest device. Prior to 2020, the company was a major player in the global smartphone market, only superseded by Apple and Samsung. However, Huawei heavily depended on technology and components manufactured in the US or created by firms operating under American patents. Following the imposition of US trade restrictions, Huawei's ability to compete internationally was impaired as they were missing the necessary hardware in chipsets and 5G modems.

In China, Huawei held around 30% of the smartphone market share in the last year, making it the largest phone vendor in the country. Meanwhile, the company's global market share in July was estimated to be around 4%.

Despite being barred by the US from accessing key technologies, Huawei has reportedly succeeded in developing a 5G-speed smartphone. This is viewed as a testament to the company's resilience and technological capabilities.
