The Apple Watch Series 9 brought several advancements over its predecessor, the Series 8, and has evolved noticeably in 2023. WatchOS 10's interface, focused on widgets, offers a more comfortable glance at information. Meanwhile, the Series 9's Double Tap gesture creates a new way to interact with the device, the first such development in many years. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple may have grand ambitions for the upcoming Apple Watch, which might even change its naming style to the Apple Watch X (or 10) to commemorate the product's 10th anniversary.

Expected to be launched in 2024 or 2025, the so-called Apple Watch X could possibly have a sleeker form, an inventive mechanism for band attachment, a microLED display, and blood pressure monitoring, as per Bloomberg. There might be several other ways that Apple could enhance its smartwatch. By incorporating more Artificial Intelligence (AI), they could turn their watch into a smarter and more beneficial health aide.

The Double Tap feature, which is fairly new, presents a substantial opportunity for enhancements and optimizations that might make it more practical than physically tapping the screen. I have longed for improvements like superior battery life, workout recovery metrics, customizable fitness goals, and broader sleep insights for years. It is my hope that these enhancements will be realized either in a new model or via an update.

Siri on the Series 9 will be enabled to answer health-related inquiries due to a future software update. This new Siri functionality seems like it could be the beginning of turning the watch into an even more intuitive health agent. Fitbit has been experimenting with generative AI to transform data into responses that are more conversation-like, which eases understanding.

Apple's rumored Apple Watch X is slated to have a thinner casing and microLED screens which could enhance its minuscule display. A new magnetic mechanism to attach wristbands may also be in progress for a future Apple Watch, as the report suggests. Yet, such a change could disrupt the compatibility with Apple Watch wristbands from the past decade. As smartwatches are devices meant to be worn in plain sight all day, an updated design can be an important selling point.

The Action button, first introduced in the Apple Watch Ultra in 2022, is a feature I'm anticipating on less expensive Apple Watch models as well. The Action button has proven to be a convenient way to instantly start a workout or shift between apps. I used it regularly during my evaluation of the Apple Watch Ultra last year, and I firmly believe it should be incorporated into the standard Apple Watch experience.

The Apple Watch has made remarkable strides since it first debuted almost a decade ago. I am eager to see Apple propel it to new heights by incorporating more smart technology into health monitoring, updating it with essential features found in other devices, such as the Action button, and reviving its appeal as a fashion accessory with an innovative appearance.
