Earlier in the month, there were whispers of Honor making a grand re-entry into the Indian smartphone market. These rumors were further fuelled by the involvement of ex-CEO Madhav Sheth in this journey. Now, the return of Honor to the Indian market has been officially confirmed. The company is on the cusp of unveiling their first device in the Indian territory after it took a hiatus of more than three years. "Exciting News Alert! Honor Smartphones will be launched soon in India. Join us on this incredible journey as we empower the future with Honor Tech," reads a tweet from Madhav Sheth.
The backstory to this development is that in 2020, Honor had to pull back its operations from India shortly after gaining independence from former parent company, Huawei. In the meantime, the baton for the role of authorized distributor for Honor products in India was picked by PSAV Global. Over the past three years, PSAV Global introduced a wide range of wearables, tablets, and laptops under the promising brand of Honor. It is believed that they will retain the official distributorship for Honor, leveraging its established retail and distribution network.
The first device to be introduced under Honor's latest era in India is likely to be the Honor 90 model. Although the company has kept the precise date of the launch under wraps, prominent YouTuber Gaurav Chaudhary, fondly known as Technical Guruji, has suggested that the Honor 90 may be unveiled for Indian users in the month of September. At this point, the exact price detail of the smartphone in India is still a mystery.
Expectations are that the Indian Honor 90 model will reflect the specifications of its global counterpart. It will be offered in a palette of four enticing colors such as Peacock Blue, Diamond Silver, Midnight Black, and potentially, the exciting addition of Emerald Green for Indian users. The Honor 90 has made its first appearance in the Chinese market with an estimated starting price of 28,700.
The Honor 90 launched in China boasts of a formidable camera setup featuring a 200-megapixel wide lens, with additional sensors on the rear panel. It presents a gracefully curved 6.7-inch AMOLED display and offers the luxury of expansive storage of up to 512GB. It runs on MagicOS 7.1, a software based on Android 13. Accompanying these specifications are features such as Bluetooth 5.2, NFC support, Type C port, and a powerful 5,000mAh battery that allows for 66W quick charging.
