India-based Dixon Technologies, an electronic manufacturing services provider, will commence the production of Xiaomi smartphones at its factory in Noida. The facility was officially inaugurated by India's Union IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw. A subsidiary of Dixon Technologies called Padget Electronics has declared that Xiaomi handset production will take place at this newly-established Noida plant. This endeavor has benefited from an investment of approximately $3.45 million USD, as reported by several media outlets.

It is anticipated that this undertaking will generate around 5,000 new positions. Dixon's manufacturing plant boasts a yearly production capacity of 25 million units. The minister expressed his views on the advanced manufacturing capabilities seen at Dixon's new facility and countered critics who claim that India only assembles phones without actually manufacturing them.

Vaishnaw has also recognized India's rise as an influential player in the smartphone export market. This progression follows India's push for IT hardware manufacturers to produce their devices domestically. Dixon Technologies, with the aim of exporting 30% of their total production capacity within the forthcoming two to three years, has directed an investment of almost $4.03 million USD into the Noida plant for Xiaomi smartphone production, as stated in a GQ Prime report.

According to Sunil Vachani, Executive Chairman at Dixon Technologies, this partnership signifies a significant step in their commitment to bolstering the local smartphone manufacturing sector in India. They firmly believe that their operational excellence and Xiaomi's expertise and leadership in the local Indian business landscape will complement each other.

In an earlier development, during May, Xiaomi had already partnered with Noida-based contract manufacturer, Dixon Technologies. The strategic alliance was set up with an objective of manufacturing mobile phones for export. High-profile representatives from both the companies had met with Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for IT, to deliberate over their collective initiative. It stands to note that Xiaomi assembles a majority of the smartphones and televisions it sells within the Indian territory.
