Despite having a relatively smaller footprint in the global smartphone market, Google's Pixel device demonstrates that the brand's traction is on an upward curve. The solid case that illustrates Google's progress is shared by its Q2 performance in 2023. In North America, within this quarter, Google Pixel remained the unique smartphone brand to register a growth trajectory.

As per Canalys' recent assessment of smartphone consignments for North America during 2023's Q2, Google Pixel saw a surge in its shipment volumes, rising to 1.2 million units. This growth signified a near-60% increment compared to the shipment units, which stood approximately at 800,000 during the same quarter of the previous year.

Such an increase resulted in Google nearly doubling its market share in North America to 4%. However, it is remarkable to note that while Google experienced such growth, all other smartphone companies in the higher rankings experienced a year-on-year decrease in their shipment volumes.

Samsung and Motorola, for instance, suffered a steep decline in their shipments, both dropping by approximately 25%. TCL saw an even more significant slump with a 30% reduction in its shipment quantities. Apple, a leading player in the smartphone industry, also experienced a 20% drop in its shipments in spite of its substantial presence in the market.

While this downturn in Apple's shipments does not indicate a major concern - considering the company's impressive statistics of delivering almost 14.8 million devices during the quarter, amalgamating more than every other brand that runs on Android, and owning a 54% share of the market - it certainly emphasizes that Google has been making formidable strides in the market.

This growth of Google is particularly notable as the overall smartphone market in North America saw a decline by 12% during 2023 compared to the previous year. Canalys anticipates however, that the following months will witness a rebound in these figures, underpinned by the launch of the iPhone 15 collection and Samsung's new generation of foldable smartphones.

Google's Pixel is expected to keep pace and further gain momentum through October and the year-end with its forthcoming Pixel 8 series. Thus, Google enhances its presence in the market, reinforcing its promise of continuing innovation and growth.
