Unveiling of a groundbreaking offering took place on Wednesday as Alphabet's Google corporation launched their latest smartphone, the Pixel 8 along with an innovative smartwatch. These devices have been built integrating Google's state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology, signaling a significant push towards incorporating AI-driven capacities into Google's consumer goods extensively. Although Google's flagship smartphone, the Pixel, falls short in terms of sales in comparison to Apple's iPhone, it serves the motive of embodying the epitome of technological advancements that Android products offer.

Pixel phones have managed to win the hearts of photography enthusiasts and customers who prefer uncompromised, pure Android devices that are free of any third-party modifications. The company took a major leap in driving their Pixel series towards better performance by powering them with the all-new latest mobile processor termed Tensor G3.

This groundbreaking processor introduced by Google delivers enhanced machine learning and artificial intelligence muscle, letting users harness more sophisticated capacities for data processing both on their devices and in the cloud. Executives, while sharing announcements at the Made by Google event in New York on Wednesday, highlighted how the latest AI applications could transform several areas, spanning from photography to web-page summarizing, and even screening of spam calls.

The elite version of the smartphone, named Pixel 8 Pro, comes equipped with a Thermometer application designed to deliver body temperature readings, which is on hold for approval by the Food and Drug Administration. The starting prices are set at $699 and $999 for the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro respectively, launching with a bump of $100 from the prices of their preceding alternating models.

The availability of these exclusive Google products commences from the 12th of October. As IDC analyst Ryan Reith pointed out, Wednesday's event clearly portrayed Google's drive in delivering the mobile AI narrative. Shrewd marketing strategies could potentially boost the market share of Google's Pixel lineup, especially boosting its performance in the U.S. Apple's iPhone series launch in the preceding month saw some major upgrades including a durable titanium shell, a quicker processing chip, and advancements in gaming performance, yet, surprisingly, it refrained from raising prices in a slow global smartphone market trend.

In the context of global shipments, Google's Pixel lineup occupies the 12th spot with a 0.9% share as per IDC findings. The recently introduced enhancements could pave the way for the Pixel phones to become a coveted choice for shoppers during the upcoming holiday season. Pixel's major markets include the U.S., accounting for about 39% of its global shipments, while Japan and the UK contribute to being the other major markets with shares of 29% and 9% respectively.

Further taking a step ahead in the AI integration pathway, Google has announced its plans to embed generative AI functionalities into its virtual assistant, enabling it to assist in tasks like trip planning or email management with a provision to ask follow-up questions. Another new offering came as the inevitable upgrade of the initially launched smartwatch in October 2022. The company has launched Google Watch 2, with a starting price of $349. It introduces a slew of AI-powered high-end health monitoring features and a digital crown.
