The Department of Transportation (DOT) has recently unveiled that commuters using local CT and CT buses can now conveniently acquire 31-day passes via their smartphones. The official announcement indicated that this new change was implemented last Friday.

This gives CTtransit and CTfastrak customers the additional liberty of procuring their passes directly from their mobile devices. Such an alternative comes as a constant response to recurring customer appeals for a wider variety of fare and payment provisions.

The DOT launched this initiative with the aim of incorporating customer feedback into their strategic planning, ultimately leading to improved bus and rail services. The adoption of Token Transit for the purchase of bus fares is anticipated to enhance the overall customer journey, permitting more flexibility in fee payment and streamlining the boarding process at various stops.

It has been clarified by officials that fares purchased on Token Transit will not face expiration. Additionally, those buying passes can instantly share them with friends or family.

In a joint venture with Token Transit, the state DOT had run a pilot program in April. This allowed customers to use their smartphones for purchasing two-hour Adult, Senior/Disabled, and Youth bus passes. The participating regional buses in Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, Bristol, Meriden, New Britain, Wallingford, and Waterbury will accept Token Transit. However, commuters transferring to a CTtransit Express bus, which is not currently part of this pilot, will need to cover the fare difference with cash at the express bus's farebox.
