The Canalys market analysis reveals a sustained upward trend in the smartphone industry, marking the third successive quarter of year-over-year growth, as observed in the second quarter of 2024.

According to the detailed report, the period between April and June witnessed a substantial increase in smartphone shipments, totaling 288 million units worldwide. This figure represents a 12% growth compared to the same period in the previous year, illustrating significant market expansion.

Samsung managed to preserve its position at the forefront of the market, although its lead over Apple, which remains in second place, has been narrowed down to a mere 2 percentage points.

The report highlights that Xiaomi and Transsion saw the most notable advancements in market share. The analysis suggests that these companies have successfully capitalized on the opportunities in emerging markets across the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

The strategic marketing and promotional efforts of both Xiaomi and Transsion in these regions, along with the alleviation of inflation challenges, have facilitated the introduction of upgraded products to a wider audience.

Furthermore, the surge in smartphone demand can be attributed to several factors, including technological advancements, the availability of affordable models, and the increasing reliance on mobile devices for a variety of tasks.

This growth momentum in the smartphone sector is expected to continue, driven by consumer demand for innovative features and the gradual reopening of economies around the world.
