Last week, our selection for the finest smartphone camera of 2023 was announced. The Google Pixel 8 Pro, the latest product from Google, was our choice, and it seems our readers are in agreement. The results of a survey we published on our previously referred to as Twitter platform showed the Pixel 8 Pro as the clear gateway, achieving 51.4% of the votes.

In this competition, the Galaxy S23 Ultra came in the second position with 39.2% of the votes, with the OnePlus Open in third place securing 6.8%, and the OPPO Find X6 Pro coming in fourth with 2.7%. There were many impressive camera smartphones this year; however, our readers gravitated towards the Pixel’s offerings. Backed by remarkable camera hardware and software, the Pixel 8 Pro is indeed an appealing contender.

The camera setup of the Pixel 8 Pro is certainly attention-catching. With a 50-megapixel primary camera featuring a more advanced sensor, it's undeniably efficient. The lens has an  aperture and a 1.2um pixel size, not to overlook that OIS and EIS are supported. The ultrawide camera of the phone is pretty impressive. Google went for a 48-megapixel ultrawide unit with a wide 125.5-degree Field Of View.

The third, and final, camera on the back is a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with a 5x optical zoom capability, and a maximum Super Res Zoom of up to 30x. Additionally, the polished 10.5-megapixel front camera is also quite efficient. Offering Pixel users a familiar contrasty look, it performs exceedingly well in high dynamic range conditions, making it a trustworthy point-and-shoot camera phone. Additionally, for fans who love fine-tuning their shots, a Pro mode is also available.

Low-light shooting is another of the Pixel 8 Pro’s strong suits. Over the years, Google has consistently delivered superior camera phones, and the Pixel 8 Pro stands at the pinnacle of their offerings. Obtaining excellent low-light photos is a breeze. Likewise, you can expect impressive 5x photos and even perfectly usable 10x shots from this device.

Artificial Intelligence also plays a part. Google launched several AI features with the Pixel 8 series, some even exclusively for the Pro model. One such feature, Best Take, assures that unintentional blinking during photo-shooting becomes a thing of the past. Google also introduced Magic Editor, a toolset that allows you to move subjects in a picture and completely change the sky's look, among other options. Google is also improving low-light video recording with the feature Night Sight video, designed to increase detail and dynamic range, and reduce noise.

While the Pixel 8 Pro's focus is the camera, Google hasn’t neglected other aspects of the device. The matte-glass backed phone is comfortable to hold and offers an attractive design. Functionality is also impressive, as Google optimized this device to perform well, as our review of the Pixel 8 Pro previously mentioned. Additionally, the device has a decent battery life and supports wireless charging, although chargers are not included in the retail box. The latest Android version comes pre-installed, and noteworthy is Google's commitment to provide 7 years of proper software updates. It appears this device is set to provide an outstanding software support experience.
