With the impressive performance of the Find N2 series and Find X6 flagships, OPPO became the leader in the Chinese smartphone marketplace while also securing a fourth position internationally in the first half of 2023. According to figures from Canalys, OPPO secured a 10% share of the global smartphone market in the first half of 2023, with around 51.9 million shipments. Simultaneously, with an 18% stake in the Chinese smartphone market, it became the most high-grossing brand in China for the same period.
Part of OPPO's success came from the emerging popularity of foldable devices, a market that experienced rapid growth throughout the year and demonstrated significant development potential. Conversely, Counterpoint Research estimates that global shipments of foldable devices will surge at a compounded annual growth rate of 114% from 2019 to 2025. The same is expected to quadruple between 2022 and 2025, resulting in approximately 55 million units.
Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from China, including OPPO, were quick to adopt this growing foldable market, which marked China's emergence as a global leader in the sector. China held 26% of the market share in 2022. New data from Canalys also show that OPPO held a dominating 31% share of the foldable devices market in China during the first quarter of 2023, hence making it a leader in this growing segment.
In terms of products, the OPPO Find N2 Flip stood out, accounting for 15% of foldable device sales from January to May 2023, as per Counterpoint. The Find N2 Flip is designed for practicality and fun, featuring a larger external screen, less visible screen fold, a powerful battery, and an intuitive user interface design. These unique aspects, along with other industry-leading innovations, have garnered wide commercial success.
These innovations and the commercial success of the Find N2 Flip also helped OPPO become the global market leader in foldable devices, with a market share increase from 5% in the first quarter of 2022 to 13% in the first quarter of 2023, according to Canalys. OPPO continues its commitment to driving growth in the foldable market and enhancing user experience through prioritizing technical innovation.
