A heartbreaking incident took place in Balasore district, Odisha, where a 17-year-old boy identified as the sole male offspring of Sunil Swain, unfortunately, took his own life. This horrifying event transpired on the occasion of Dussehra after his family failed to fulfill his desire for a new smartphone.

The family hails from Shantinagar village, located in the Bhograi block of Balasore. Tragically, his life came to an abrupt and sorrowful end last night, with the cause being identified as suicide, spurred by the lack of a smartphone which he requested from his family.

Upon completion of his tenth-grade examinations, the teenager reportedly became fervently absorbed in the popular mobile game. His deep fascination with the game grew over time, escalating into a serious addiction that gradually started consuming all his time and energy.

Prior to the tragic event, the teenager had expressed his desire for a high-end smartphone to his parents, who reside and work in Bangalore as labourers. Although the family members were residing in the state capital of Karnataka, the teenager had recently returned to his native village in Balasore to celebrate Dussehra.

Tragic reports reveal that the boy took the drastic step of hanging himself when his parents were unable to finance the purchase of a new, high-value smartphone. His intense craving for the game and the inability of his parents to afford the costly gadget played a significant role in his demise.

Meanwhile, the anguished parents, backed by their fellow villagers, have called upon the state's government to prohibit the online game of Free Fire for children in the region. They believe that the shockingly addictive nature of such games can lead to further such unfortunate incidents.
