Samsung has hinted at a new enhancement for its flagship Galaxy S24 series phones, launching at CES 2024. This is akin to Apple's Continuity Camera function, whereby Samsung will enable Galaxy phone owners to convert their smartphone into a webcam for use with their Galaxy Book 4 laptop, using the Link To Windows app.

The innovative feature was demonstrated by Jonathan Gabrio, the head of Samsung's connected experience division, during a Microsoft Teams demo. Gabrio pointed out that this feature will come with Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone, strongly directing us to believe that the feature will be included with the S24 series.

However, the Galaxy S24 series will not be the only devices capable of using this feature. It will be compatible with any Galaxy device that operates on One UI 1.0 or beyond, meaning even older models can use this webcam feature. But it is important to note that, at present, the feature appears to be exclusive to the Galaxy Book 4.

Considering that laptops generally have undistinguished cameras, the support for smartphone cameras, typically high-quality, is a huge advantage for Samsung users. The benefits of using one's S24 series smartphone as a webcam go beyond simply image quality, offering features like AI-fueled auto-framing that keep the user in focus, and a background blur feature for user privacy.

In addition, Samsung aims to improve connectivity experiences across its devices. For example, Samsung's Galaxy Book 4 works in conjunction with Microsoft's Copilot AI. This collaboration gives Copilot the ability to access, summarise or read text messages from a Samsung Galaxy phone, or even write and send text messages from the user's PC on behalf of the user.

Such capabilities mean you can ask Copilot to find restaurant recommendations your friends have suggested in past messages, look up visitor reviews on your browser, and then send a message from your PC to your significant other asking if they want to have dinner that evening, according to Samsung.
